History of the Lighting Showroom

Don’s Light House ltd is a family owned and operated corporation that was started in 1973. Our lighting showroom is 4500 square feet and offers a variety of products from ceiling fans to garden lights. Our St. Catharines location has been the only home of Don’s since it’s beginning, although we have gone through some changes over the years. We currently have over 100 suppliers.

Since our beginning, Don’s has always looked for the better made product. It’s our feeling that a little attention to detail in a light makes all the difference in brightening your home.


Don’s was started in 1973 by Donald McKean. Don enjoyed being a part of the community in the city of St. Catharines and loved being out in the showroom talking to customers. Whether it was a simple wiring problem or selecting the lights for a new home, Don was eager to assist. These values are reflected in his two children Les and Laurie who grew up in the lighting showroom. Les McKean, who runs the showroom today, still prides himself on being an active member in local children’s hockey clubs and helping out with local charities. You’ll always see Les smiling out in the showroom talking to friends just like his father.
